Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered each year may vary and is dependent on the number of qualified applicants and the amount of funding available. In the 2012-2013 academic year (the most recent for which data is available), there were 908 scholarships given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must enroll full time.
  2. Must graduate from a high school in North Dakota or from an eligible high school in a bordering state.
  3. Must attend an accredited public or private postsecondary institution in North Dakota. A list of institutions that accept this scholarship is available in the Scholarship Brochure on the DPI website.
  4. Must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Students must also earn a grade of 'C' or higher on any required courses.
  5. Must be a graduating high school senior at the time of application.
  6. This award is for U.S. students.
  7. Must have an ACT score of 24 or higher, or a score of 5 or higher on each of the three WorkKeys assessments.
  8. Must be a North Dakota resident.
  9. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to North Dakota high school students who are planning to enroll full-time enrollment in an accredited higher education institution in North Dakota. Students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and have an ACT composite score of 24 or higher or a score of 5 or higher on each of the three WorkKeys assessment.

Additional Information: All students must complete the required high school curriculum (details in the "Scholarship Brochure" posted on the DPI website). Notification of award will be sent to students by June 30 at which time students must log in to the   application site and either accept or defer the scholarship.

Award Amount: The total value of the scholarship is $6,000, with total annual payments of $1,500 ($750 per semester or $500 per quarter). Scholarships are automatically renewed provided the student is enrolled full time (12 hours the first two terms and 15 hours each term thereafter) and maintains a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,399.

Applications are available online at the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (DPI) website. To apply, the student must create a login and password to register an account with the DPI online scholarship application system. All correspondence for the scholarship process will occur via email. Students must take either the ACT or the WorkKeys written assessment. Students should contact a counselor or principal at their high schools for information as to where and when these assessments will be administered. Scholarship applications will be accepted beginning in January and must be submitted online by the deadline date.
