Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Please note: Due to limited appropriation, not all students will be funded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of North Dakota.
  3. Must plan to attend a North Dakota public, private, or tribal college or university.
  4. Must score in the upper fifth percentile of all North Dakota ACT test takers.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must take the ACT assessment in the junior year of high school.

Description: This award is for North Dakota high school students who are planning to attend a postsecondary institution in North Dakota. The student must score in the upper fifth percentile of all North Dakota ACT test takers prior to July 1 of the junior year.

Application requirements for the North Dakota Scholars Program are:

Additional Information: Awarding selection is made based on the student's ACT score. The numeric sum of the English, math, reading and science reasoning scores will be used as a second selection criterion. The student's class rank at the end of his/her junior year will be used as a selection criterion if a tie-breaker is needed.

Award Amount: The amount of the scholarship is equal to the tuition rate charged at the scholar's institution, not to exceed the highest regular resident undergraduate tuition rate in the North Dakota University System. Scholars may receive the award for nor more than eight semesters or twelve quarters of full-time undergraduate study, or until the attainment of a baccalaureate degree, whichever occurs first.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,400.

Program information is available from the North Dakota University System (NDUS) website. Students must take the ACT assessment prior to July 1 of the calendar year preceding their enrollment in college. No separate application is required. Eligible students will receive notification from the NDUS with further instructions. ACT national test and registration deadline dates are available online at www.actstudent.org/regist/dates.html. The final eligible ACT administration is on June 8, 2019. The registration deadline is May 3, 2019; the final registration deadline with late fee is May 20, 2019.
