Additional Information: The Academic Scholars Program, established by the state Legislature and governor in 1988 and operated by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, provides scholarships to academically outstanding students who attend an Oklahoma college or university. Funding priority will be given first to prior years’ recipients, and secondly, to any students applying for the scholarship for the first-time. For first-time students, priority will be given to Individual Applicant Qualified Students, Presidential Scholars, National Merit Scholars, and National Merit Finalists, and secondly, to Institutional Nominees. Out-of-state students may qualify for the program by achieving designation as a National Merit Scholar, National Merit Finalist or United States Presidential Scholar. However, out-of-state student participation is limited, and achieving such a designation does not automatically qualify students for the program. Out-of-state students wishing to participate in the program should contact their college of choice directly for additional information regarding eligibility.

Award Amount: The amount of the award varies according to the type of institution the student attends and qualification status. The annual scholarship amount for automatic qualifiers is $5,500 for students who attend the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University or The University of Tulsa; $4,000 for students who attend any other Oklahoma four-year public or private college or university; and $3,500 for students who attend Oklahoma two-year colleges. The annual scholarship amount for Institutional Nominees is $2,800 for students who attend the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University or The University of Tulsa; $2,000 for students who attend any other Oklahoma four-year public or private college or university; and $1,800 for students who attend Oklahoma two-year colleges. The award amounts may vary from year to year depending upon the amount of funds available. Students who enroll at public colleges and universities are eligible for a tuition waiver in addition to the scholarship award. Awards may be renewable for up to eight semesters of enrollment. Recipients must maintain full-time enrollment each semester (12 hours in the fall and spring/24 hours annually) with a minimum 3.25 cumulative grade point average.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,188.
