Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a graduate of an Oklahoma high school or have obtained a GED.
  3. Must be a high school graduate or GED recipient at time of application.
  4. Must be 25 years of age or younger at time of application.
  5. Must have been in the Oklahoma DHS custody foster care system, or have aged out, at the time of graduation from high school or at the time of obtaining a GED.
  6. Must be an Oklahoma resident.
  7. Must have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher.

Description: This scholarship is available to graduates of Oklahoma high schools (or GED recipients) who in the Oklahoma DHS custody foster care system, or had aged out, at the time of graduation from high school or at the time of obtaining a GED. Students must be 25 years of age or younger.

Additional Information: The Oklahoma Youth with Promise Scholarship Fund was established in 1996 to provide scholarships to students who graduated from high school while in DHS custody.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually. The award is renewable if the student completes the renewal process. Students must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or higher to renew.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online on the Oklahoma City Community Foundation (OCCF) website. Students must create an account using their email address on the OCCF website to access the online application. All students must then login and complete the General Application. The student should have access to the following information for completion of the General Application: his/her FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) SAR (Student Aid Report) or the first two pages of his/her household's most recent IRS 1040 tax form; contact information for the individual who can submit an official transcript on his/her behalf; a list of extracurricular activities, community service, honors, awards, leadership, and employment history (including dates and descriptions); and contact information for the person(s) who will write letters of recommendation for him/her (one required for the General Application). After completion of the General Application, the student may then apply for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible. Please note that this scholarship requires the following supplemental materials: contact information for a child welfare social worker or licensed residential facility worker who will submit a recommendation on the student's behalf; and, if the student wishes to be considered for an additional scholarship, a discussion of his/her career goals (limited to 250 words). All application materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
