Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must reside in Alaska, Oregon, or Western Washington (Clallam, Clark, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, San Juan, Skagit, Skamania, Snohomish, Thurston, Wahkiakum, and Whatcom County.)

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors in Alaska, Oregon, and Western Washington State. To apply, applicants must submit an original video that educates consumers about common business and financial scams.

Additional Information: The Better Business Bureau helps consumers fight back against fraudulent business practices and illegal financial schemes, and this scholarship video contest has been designed to educate students and citizens about the remedies available. Videos will be evaluated based on the following criteria: clearly promoting the BBB brand; effort and creativity; memorability; clear and concise content; and total video views. All work must be original or licensed under Creative Commons agreements. Students in the following counties of Western Washington are eligible to apply: Clallam, Clark, Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, Island, Jefferson, King, Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, San Juan, Skagit, Skamania, Snohomish, Thurston, Wahkiakum, and Whatcom County.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications and information about this award are available online at the Better Business Bureau (BBB) website using the link provided. To be considered for this award, students must produce an original video of up to 90 seconds that demonstrates how consumers can report fraudulent and criminal business activity in the Pacific Northwest region. Each video must provide at least three specific tips within a broader theme, and must include the phone number and website that consumers can contact the BBB. Videos must then be uploaded to Youtube with an 'unlisted' security setting. Improperly uploaded videos will not be considered. Finally, applicants must complete the online application at the BBB website. If applying as a group, all members of the team must complete the appropriate application sections. All applications and videos must be received no later than the deadline date.
