Number of Awards & Eligibility: Fourteen awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a member of the AIST Midwestern Chapter, covering Northwestern Indiana, Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.
  2. Must be planning to pursue a career in the iron & steel industry.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. high school seniors and undergraduate students in Northwestern Indiana, Northern Illinois, Wisconsin, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa who are planning to major in engineering and pursue a career in iron and steel technology. Applicants must be AIST Midwest Chapter members or dependents of AIST Midwest Chapter members.

Application requirements for the AIST Midwest Member Chapter Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letter
  • Essay
  • SAT/ACT Test Report
Additional Information: The AIST Midwest Member Chapter's Scholarship Program provides multiple awards to students in the AIST Midwestern Chapter. Named awards that are available through this program may include, but are not limited to the following: Don Nelson Scholarship; Mel Nickel Scholarship; Betty McKern Scholarship; Jack Gill Scholarship; Western States Award; and Tom Cipich Scholarship. Awards will also be provided for engineering and non-engineering classifications, computer technology, material advantage, and chapter technology. AIST Foundation Scholarship awards are intended to attract talented and dedicated students and to encourage them to pursue careers within the iron and steel industry. The AIST Foundation Board of Trustees administers the scholarships. Please note: Students must be AIST members or dependents of AIST members to apply for this award.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $42,000.

Applications are available online on the Association for Iron and Steel Technology (AIST) website. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted by email or postal mail and must be received no later than the deadline date.
