Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, all eligible applicants will be awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be currently pursuing an undergraduate level of study and be under the age of 25.
  2. Must be a resident of South Dakota.
  3. Must be a child of a deceased parent, mother or father, who was a veteran for at least six months immediately prior to entry into active service a bona fide resident South Dakota, and who suffered death from any cause while in the service of the armed forces of the United States.
  4. Must be enrolled at one of the following state supported institutions: Black Hills State University; Dakota State University; Northern State University; South Dakota School of Mines and Technology; South Dakota State University; The University of South Dakota.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to South Dakota students who are enrolled at or planning to attend a South Dakota State supported college or university. The student must be under the age of 25 and be the child of a deceased parent, mother or father, who was killed in action or died of other causes while on active duty in the armed forces.

Additional Information: Children who are under the age of 25, are residents of South Dakota, and whose mother or father was killed in action or died of other causes while on active duty in the armed forces, are eligible to receive this tuition waiver at a state supported institution. This program includes only state-support courses - primarily those that are campus-based and involve face-to-face instruction. It does not include courses that are offered at learning centers and other off-campus locations or those that entail distance learning. The deceased parent must have been a bona fide resident of South Dakota for at least six (6) months immediately preceding entry into active service. For additional information students can contact the local County Veterans Service Officer or Financial Aids Officer.

Award Amount: Awards provide a tuition waiver equal to the cost of tuition at any South Dakota state supported college. The total award amount is dependent on the number of hours the student is enrolled and the cost of tuition, as determined annually by the state of South Dakota. Awards are renewable for as long as the student remains eligible.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $11,000.
