Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of recipients for this program varies according to the number of college students meeting the eligibility requirements in any given year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a Texas resident.
  3. Must have documentation from the Department of Defense that a parent, who is classified as a Texas resident, is missing in action or a prisoner of war.
  4. Must attend a public college or university in Texas.
  5. Must be 21 or younger at the time of application.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be the child of a military member classified as MIA or POW.

Additional Information: The purpose of this program is to provide an education benefit to the children of persons listed as Missing in Action or Prisoners of War by the U.S. Department of Defense. Students must enroll in classes for which the college receives tax support (i.e., a course that does not depend solely on student tuition and fees to cover its costs).

Award Amount: Exemption from the payment of tuition and certain fees at eligible colleges and universities in Texas. Awards are renewable providing the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress, as determined by the institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $35,000.
