Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a college teacher or professor (or the spouse or dependent of a teacher or professor) who is employed at least half-time on a regular monthly salary basis by any Texas public college or university.
  3. Must attend a Texas public college or university. Please note: Faculty and their dependents are not required to enroll at the same institution listed as the employing institution in order to receive this waiver.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must not be a resident of Texas.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to non-Texas resident college teachers and professors who are employed at a public college or university in Texas. The waiver allows the teacher/professor and/or his/her immediate family members to pay resident tuition rates.

Additional Information: The purpose of this program is to provide a waiver of non-resident tuition to teachers and professors employed at least half-time on a regular monthly salary basis by any Texas public college or university. Such waiver is also applicable to the spouse and dependent children of the teacher or professor.

Award Amount: This award is for a waiver of non-resident tuition. The value of the waiver is the difference between the non-resident and resident tuition rate. The waiver is effective for as long as the faculty remains employed in an eligible capacity.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,800.

Program information is available online on the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) website by clicking on the "Waiver Programs" link. Students must submit a statement, prior to the time of enrollment, certifying employment of self, parent, or spouse as a teacher or professor in a Texas public college of university in at least a half-time capacity on a regular monthly salaried basis. Such statement should come from the director of personnel or a designated representative of the employing institution and should be provided to the Office of the Registrar of the Texas public college or university at which the applicable family member is enrolling. Generally, student eligibility for a waiver must be established prior to or at the time of enrollment. The student should contact his/her institution for more information. It is recommended that students complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after Jan. 1, but no later than March 1 to ensure consideration for this award.
