The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit is seeking submissions for its essay contest. The contest is open to all students currently in grades 9 through 12 from Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia. BPW Virginia Ruff Scholarship for Continuing Education

This $1,000 scholarship honors Virginia Ruff, a member of Bedford BPW for more than 50 years at the time of her death in April 2002 at age 94. A graduate of The College of Mary Washington and The College of William and Mary, Miss Ruff dedicated her life to the education of Bedford children as a teacher at the Villamont and Montvale schools, and as a librarian at Bedford and Liberty High Schools. She retired in 1973. This scholarship provides financial assistance for women seeking education to re-enter the job market, advancement and/or to achieve economic self-sufficiency. A committee of four BPW members selects the recipient.

DFLAEF Education Fund Scholarship Essay Contest

In order to apply for the DFLA Education Fund Scholarship Essay Contest, applicants must submit a 500-word to 800-word essay based on the year’s prompt. Each essay is scored based on originality, creativity, the strength of argument, acknowledgment of alternative perspectives, and proper use of grammar and spelling. Party affiliation, gender, and personal politics are immaterial. The contest will use “blind” scoring. Judges will see no personal information (e.g. name; school; gender; age; address; etc.) about the writer, and evaluate essays strictly on their content. The winner will be invited to read his/her essay at the DFLA Education Fund National Conference. Must be 17 to 26 years of age, a full-time student, and a U.S. citizen or DACA recipient. The DFLA Education Fund is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit that does both educational and advocacy work. There is no required reading for this essay, nor are any citations required in the essay. However, reviewing the recommended resources is highly encouraged.

Korean American Scholarship Foundation-Eastern Regional Chapter

The Korean American Scholarship Foundation (KASF) – Eastern Regional Chapter (ERC) is pleased to announce a scholarship program in honor and recognition of 1.6 million American Veterans who served in the Korean War during the Korean War era (June 25, 1950–January 31, 1955). These men and women answered the call to fight for a country and people they never knew and never met. More than 54,000 Americans died and 103,000 were wounded. To express our gratitude to these veterans for their sacrifices, KASF-ERC will offer their descendants an opportunity to apply for a scholarship. KASF-ERC scholarship program will recognize outstanding students who have demonstrated outstanding talents and potential for success. Awardees will receive a check of $2,000 scholarships from KASF and be able to attend the KASF-ERC Award Ceremony & Banquet in Vienna, VA.

Virginia Department of Health Nursing Scholarships

The Nursing Scholarship Program is for students in a practical nurse program (LPN) or a registered nurse (RN) program and who are accepted or enrolled a school of nursing in the State of Virginia. Scholarship recipients must agree to engage in full-time nursing in Virginia for one month for every $100 received. Presently, the Virginia Department of Health, Office of Health Equity offers several scholarship opportunities to help pay for nursing education.

This award is available for Korean-American students living in and attending school in Delaware, District of Columbia, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, or West Virginia. Hard Work Pays Off Scholarship – Heart of Virginia

The Warren Firm, a small personal injury law firm based in Charlottesville, Virginia, has created the Hard Work Pays Off Scholarship – a $2,500 scholarship available to graduating high school seniors from the following Virginia counties: Appomattox, Charlotte, Lunenburg, Nottoway, Amelia, Cumberland, Buckingham, and Prince Edward.
