Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually. One award is for the essay, one award is for the video.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Washington state.
  3. Must be a high school senior.

Description: This award is for Washington high school students that are interested in the role that the civil justice system plays in our society by creating an essay or video.

Application requirements for the American Justice Essay and Video Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The video scholarship winner’s piece will be posted on WSAJ’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, and may be aired on TV. WSAJ reserves the right to make the winning video available to the general public. By submitting a video, applicants grant WSAJ a royalty-free license to copy, distribute, modify, display and perform publicly and otherwise use, and authorize others to use, your video for any purpose. Applicants also guarantee no other person, corporation or organization has a copyright interest in your video.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Additional information can be found on the Washington State Association for Justice website. To apply, students must create either an essay or a video on the topic listed on the website, a cover letter, and the application checklist. If students choose to write an essay, the essay must be between 700 and 800 words in 11 or 12 point font in Calibri, Arial, Times New Roman, or Helvetica font. If students choose to create a video, the video must be between 45 and 60 seconds, in the format of a public service announcement. The video must be uploaded on YouTube or Vimeo. In addition, students must write a 300 to 400 word summary of the subject and inspiration for the video. All application materials must be emailed to the addresses provided by the deadline date.
