Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 71,000 grants will be given in the 2014-2015 academic year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Washington.
  3. Must enroll in a minimum of three credits.
  4. Must not be pursuing a degree in theology.
  5. Must have a family income of equal to or less than 70 percent of the state median. A chart showing eligible income levels is available online at readysetgrad.org/college/state-need-grant.
  6. Must be enrolled at a participating college or university in Washington. A list of participating institutions is available online readysetgrad.org/college/state-need-grant.
  7. Must pursue a first bachelor's degree, a certificate, or first associate's degree.

Description: This award is available to Washington resident undergraduate students who are attending or planning to attend an eligible postsecondary institution in Washington. The students must have a family income equal to or less than 70 percent of the state median.

Application requirements for the Washington State Need Grant (SNG) are:

  • FAFSA (or WASFA
  • if ineligible to complete FAFSA)
Additional Information: The State Need Grant (SNG) program helps the state's lowest-income undergraduate students pursue degrees, hone skills, or retrain for new careers. Students cannot owe a repayment to another student aid program.

Award Amount: The award amount varies based on the type of institution the student attends. Maximum award amounts range from $2,823 to $10,868, if enrolled full time. Please note: Actual SNG award amounts may vary due to individual campus awarding policies and available funds. Students must reapply for funding each year. The student cannot exceed five years of SNG term usage or 125 percent of enrolled program length.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,338.
