Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. *Please note: The number of recipients for this program varies according to the number of students meeting the eligibility requirements in any given year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a full-time student.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must be making satisfactory progress toward a degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline, such as math or physics, with a demonstrated interest in computer science.
  5. Must be currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree program.
  6. Must be attending a four-year college/university in the United States, Canada, or Mexico.

Additional Information: While all eligible candidates may apply, a large majority of the scholarships will be awarded to female students, underrepresented minority students, and students with disabilities. Minority applicants are members of one of the following groups underrepresented in the software field: African American, Hispanic, or Native American. All applicants are required to apply for a summer internship and if offered, must complete this internship at Microsoft Corporation in Redmond, Washington. Microsoft reserves the right not to offer an internship position to the scholarship recipient if an appropriate match cannot be found. Microsoft will review all applications and select final candidates on the basis of eligibility, quality of application, displayed interest in the software industry, commitment to leadership, and financial need.

Award Amount: The scholarship will cover up to 100 percent of the tuition for the following academic year as posted by the applicant's financial aid office of his/her university/college. The scholarship payments are made to the designated school and are not transferable to other academic institutions. The funds are to be used for tuition only.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $25,000.
