In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Texas.
  3. Must be the child of a parent who suffered an injury, resulting in disability or death, sustained in the line of duty while he/she was a paid or volunteer fireman; paid municipal, county or state peace officer; a custodial employee of the Texas Department of Corrections; or a game warden.
  4. Must attend a public college or university in Texas.
  5. Must apply before the student's 21st birthday.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Description: This award is available to Texas resident students who are the children of persons who have been disabled or killed in the line of duty while serving the community. The applicant must apply before his/her 21st birthday.

  • Letter from parent's employer
Additional Information: The Exemption for Children of Disabled or Deceased Firemen, Police Officers, and Other Public Servants program is a state program, created by the state of Texas, established to provide a benefit to the children of persons who have been disabled or killed in the line of duty while serving the community. Student must enroll in classes for which the college receives tax support i.e. a course that does not depend solely on student tuition and fees to cover its costs).

Award Amount: Exemption from the payment of tuition and required fees for the first 120 undergraduate semester credit hours for which a person registers, or until the recipient reaches age 26, whichever comes first. Recipients must maintain satsifactory academic progress, as determined by the institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,388.
