Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Vermont.
  4. Must be an incoming or current undergraduate or graduate student.
  5. Must enroll on a half-time (six credits per term) basis or higher.
  6. Must attend an accredited school located within Vermont that is approved for federal Title IV funding.
  7. Must be an active member or be the child of an active member of a union.
  8. Must seek a degree in nursing.
  9. Must demonstrate community involvement/service.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to Vermont undergraduate and graduate students who attend a Vermont postsecondary institution to seek a degree in nursing. Applicants must be active members or the children of active members of a union; applicants must also demonstrate financial need and community involvement/service.

Additional Information: The Karen Quill Scholarship was established in 2012 in memory of Karen Quill, a dedicated union nurse. Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Selection is based on application documents and financial need. There are approximately 22 applicants for this award each year.

Award Amount: Up to $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available from the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) website. Applications may be completed either online or in paper form beginning on November 1. Please note: The student is only required to submit one application for all scholarships for which he/she wishes to apply. In addition, if a particular document is required for more than one scholarship, the student need only submit one copy of that document. To apply, the student must complete and submit the VSAC Unified Scholarship Application and submit the following materials: a letter of recommendation; an essay; and official transcripts. NOTE: Required additional materials MUST conform to the detailed instructions in the VSAC Scholarships Booklet. The student is highly encouraged to review the booklet thoroughly when assembling materials. Electronic applications and any digital versions of supplemental materials must be submitted by midnight on the deadline date. Paper applications or any supplemental materials in paper form must be postmarked by the deadline date.
