Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Rhode Island. Preference is given to applicants with five years or more of residency.
  4. Must not be a Rhode Island School of Design graduate or seeking a graduate degree from RISD.
  5. Must be pursuing a master's or doctorate degree.
  6. Must be pursuing a degree in arts education or the arts.
  7. Must intend to teach at K-12, undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate level.

Description: This fellowship program is open to Rhode Island residents who need financial assistance to acquire education toward a master's or doctorate in order to pursue a teaching career in the arts. Applicants may not be a Rhode Island School of Design graduate or seeking a graduate degree from RISD.

Additional Information: Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Applicants should demonstrate a consistent pursuit of knowledge about and in practice of the arts. Applicants will be expected to become increasingly independent of Cirino support in successive years. Applicants may be degree candidates in one or more aspects of the arts and in one or more of the arts disciplines.

Award Amount: $2,000 to $12,000 annually, renewable for an additional two years. The amount varies based on financial need and the costs of the institution attended. Please note: Students writing dissertations are only generally be funded for one year and at the minimal amount.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $24,000.
