In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a parent.
  3. Must be pursuing a vocational certificate or undergraduate degree.
  4. Must be majoring in nursing.
  5. Must reside in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area, defined so as to include Lawrence, Kansas and Leavenworth, Kansas.

Additional Information: The Dr. Risdon Memorial Development Award is provided annually by the Audrey I. Newcomer Scholarship Fund, and seeks to assist with the educational expenses of a local area parent who is returning to school for education and training as a nurse. For the purpose of eligibility for this award, the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area is defined to include Lawrence, KS and Leavenworth, KS. The administration and management of this scholarship is provided through the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation. Originally founded in 1978, the GKCCF was designed to provide a single point of support and professional charity organization for various charitable organizations throughout the local area. Over the years, the scope of this mission has expanded to include grants, scholarships, and other philanthropic initiatives within Kansas City, throughout the Midwest, and even nation-wide. Award Amount: Up to $5,000 annually. Previous recipients may be eligible for renewal so long as they maintain satisfactory academic standing and steady progress toward their educational goals.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

In addition to the completed online application form, applicants for this scholarship must submit the following: proof of financial need; transcripts or other records of academic performance that include a current or recent grade point average; and additional information about any leadership roles, community service, or volunteer efforts that may be pertinent to the award. Completed applications with all supporting documents must be received no later than the deadline date. Late and incomplete submissions will not be considered.
