Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be currently enrolled in or accepted to an accredited law school.
  3. Must be gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered (GLBT) or the child of GLBT parent(s).
  4. Must be a resident of either northwest Oregon (Benton, Clackamas, Columbia, Hood River, Linn, Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Washington or Yamhill counties) or southwest Washington (Clark, Cowlitz, Lewis, Skamania, or Wahkiakum counties) for at least one year prior to submitting an application.

Application requirements for the Davis Wright Tremaine Equity Scholarship are:

  • Personal statement
  • Interview (may be required of finalists)
Additional Information: If the scholarship review committee deems necessary, finalists could be asked to participate in phone or in-person interviews. The recipients of the KPNW Pride Scholarship will be chosen on the completion of the scholarship application (and interviews if deemed necessary) which demonstrate: apparent financial need; ability to meet eligibility guidelines; clarity of educational objectives and career goals. The applicant must not be a member of the KPNW Diversity council, KPNW Pride Executive Council, KPNW Pride Scholarship Review Committee, or an employee of Equity Foundation.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

The student only needs to submit one application to be considered for all Pride Foundation scholarships. All applications must be submitted online. As part of the online application, the student must submit the following: contact information for two references who are familiar with her capabilities and potential for success in her education and community involvement (recommended that one reference be a teacher, counselor, or other academic representative); and answers to six essay questions concerning the topics of education goals, career goals, activities, giving back, challenges, and a quote (limited to 3,000 characters except for activities, which is limited to 5,000 characters). Further details on the essay topics are available on the online application. A student who is currently studying or plans to study visual arts, design, or music should submit two samples of his/her work. Picture samples can be in the following formats: GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIF, TIFF, PDF, DOC; Music must be in MP3 or MP4 formats; and videos must be MOV or AVI files. The file size must be no more than 300 MB. Students who are selected for an interview will be asked to bring a portfolio. Students who are selected for an interview will also be asked to bring a transcript. The complete application must be submitted by 5 p.m. PST on the deadline date.
