Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of recipients for this program varies depending on funding and the number of college students meeting the eligibility requirements in any given semester.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Desha County, Arkansas.
  3. Must be the head of the household.
  4. Must be single, legally separated, divorced or widowed.
  5. Must have one or more children.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be pursuing an undergraduate postsecondary course of study full or part time to ensure a better standard of living for his/her family. The student cannot have already obtained an undergraduate degree.
  8. Must be a high school graduate or the equivalent at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for single parents who are residents of Desha County, AR. Students must be high school graduates or older at the time of application, and demonstrate financial need.

Application requirements for the Desha County Single Parent Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • FAFSA
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Acceptance verification
Additional Information: The applicant must demonstrate financial need, and must submit proof of income and resources. Examples include: tax returns; a letter from an employer; if receiving Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC); a food stamp case number or Medicaid number; a print-out from his/her local Department of Human Services (DHS) office; or his/her last three consecutive paycheck stubs.

Award Amount: Up to $500 per semester, non-renewable. Students must reapply for scholarship assistance each semester that he/she needs funding. Scholarships may be used for tuition, books, utility bills, car maintenance, child care, etc.Desha County Single Parent Scholarship Funds are not released to scholarship recipients. The money is forwarded directly to the service provider(s). The total amount of the award can be used for one of the eligible services, or it can be divided between two or more.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.
