Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund

Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually based on the number of applications and available funding. In past years, approximately three awards have been offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have been a resident of Jefferson County in Arkansas for the past six months or more.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must have one or more children under the age of 18.
  5. Must be the head of the household.
  6. Must have and maintain a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  7. Must be single (never married), divorced, or widowed. Please note: Students who are separated or legally separated are not eligible for this award.
  8. Must be a high school graduate and/or GED recipient or older to apply for this undergraduate award. Students cannot have previously earned an undergraduate degree, except for students pursuing a Master of Arts in Education degree.
  9. Must enroll either on a full-time basis (12 credit hours or more) or a part-time basis (9 credit hours).

Description: Single undergraduate parents who are the head of the household and live in Jefferson County, Arkansas are eligible for this award. Students must have one or more children under the age of 18 and have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Application requirements for the Jefferson County Single Parent Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • FAFSA
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Proof of residence
  • Proof of enrollment
Additional Information: The purpose of the scholarship is to provide supplemental financial assistance to single parents who are pursuing a course of instruction that will improve their income-earning potential. In addition to all other eligibility criteria, the student must be the recipient of a federal Pell Grant. To apply for the Pell Grant, students must submit a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices.

Award Amount: Up to $500 per semester, non-renewable. Part-time students will be awarded different amounts than full-time students. The student may reapply each semester he/she is attending school, but he/she must fill out a renewal application for each semester an award is sought.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.
