Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be 17 years of age or older at time of application.
  4. Must reside within 150 nautical miles of Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, CA.
  5. Must be a female.
  6. Must hold at least a current pilot private license, a current medical, and a current flight review.
  7. Must be planning a career in any area of aviation, with flight training or education in mind. The student must be eligible for the rating being applied for (i.e., number of flight hours required, ratings required, medical required). Please note: The student must have completed written requirements for the rating before scholarship funds are disbursed.

Description: This scholarship is available for female pilots who are 17 years of age or older and wish to pursue flight training or education. Students must live within 150 nautical miles of the Sonoma County Airport in Santa Rosa, California.

Additional Information: The purpose of this scholarship is to provide funds to be used for a specific rating or certificate in flight training and/or continuing education to further the recipient's pursuit of a career in aviation. The applicant may be a member of the Ninety-Nines, and may be a member of the Santa Rosa Chapter, but it is not required. Previous Santa Rosa Ninety-Nine aviation scholarship recipients are not eligible. A selection committee made up of three members of the local aviation community will review the scholarship applications. Judging criteria will include the following: aviation activities as described in a personal essay and by recommendations; ability to meet planned goals, as shown by recommendations and academic and professional records; commitment to the field of aviation as described in personal essay and recommendations; and demonstrated financial need. The Santa Rosa Ninety-Nines scholarship committee will notify the winning candidate and all the candidates who did not qualify by June 15.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable. The scholarship must be used within one year of the date it is issued. The scholarship funds may be applied to academic tuition, to fees for technical schools, or to flight training. Scholarship funds should only be applied to one rating or certificate. In addition to the scholarship, the recipient will receive a one-year membership in the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots and a one-year membership in the Santa Rosa Chapter.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online on the Santa Rosa Ninety-Nines website or by contacting the Santa Rosa Ninety-Nines. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following materials: a personal essay of 500 words or less addressing the topics listed on the application; a budget statement that estimates expenses for the flight rating/training for which she is applying, discusses her financial need, and lists expected sources of funding (must be signed by a certified flight instructor, a local FBO operator, or an aviation or technical school administrator); and two letters of recommendation from persons knowledgeable of her interests and accomplishments in aviation (flight instructor, mentor, teacher, etc.). The student must submit an original and three copies of the application and all above materials. The student must also submit four copies of her ratings, certificates, and logbook showing her last flight review and total time. The application packet must be mailed to the address provided, c/o Judy Knaute, Wyvern Restaurants. The packet must be postmarked by midnight on the deadline date.
