Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a first time freshman or current undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university.
  2. Must be enrolled full time.
  3. Must be working or have worked in an Asian restaurant (Asian-owned or Asian cuisine) OR have at least one parent who worked or is working in one.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must have a 3.0 grade point average.

Description: This scholarship is available for current U.S. undergraduate students who work or have worked in an Asian restaurant (Asian-owned or Asian cuisine) OR have a parent who works or has worked in one.

Application requirements for the Shui Kuen and Allen Chin Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • FAFSA
  • Recommendation letter (2)
  • SAT scores (freshman only)
Additional Information: The purpose of the Shui Kuen and Allen Chin Scholarship is to assist undergraduate students who have worked in an Asian restaurant (Asian-owned or Asian cuisine) or have at least one parent who worked or is working in one. Students must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students doing community service for the Asian American community. The criteria for selecting scholarship recipients are the following: academic achievement; financial need; motivation and potential to succeed; and community service. Past scholarship recipients are eligible to apply. Finalists will be notified by the end of April as to whether or not they have been selected as the scholarship recipient.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Previous recipients may apply again in future years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.
