Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be enrolling or enrolled in a trade school that leads to certification (i.e., massage therapy, dental assistant) in order to learn a marketable skill which will lead to economic self-sufficiency.
  4. Must reside in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, or Ventura counties in California.
  5. Must attend a school located in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, or Ventura counties in California. Online courses are also acceptable.
  6. Must be a parent.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. students who enroll in a trade school program that leads to certification, in order to learn a marketable skill which will lead to economic self-sufficiency. Students must reside in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, or Ventura counties in California; students must also attend a school in these counties, unless attending an online school.

Additional Information: The scholarship is intended to ease the burden of parent starting or continuing his/her education, and is not limited to a particular field of study. The highly competitive selection criteria include the ability to articulate a clear statement of goals, the likelihood of goal attainment, the personal courage and personal commitment of the applicant, and the financial need.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the National Council of Jewish Women - Los Angeles Chapter website. Each applicant may apply for up to two awards in each application cycle using one application. In addition to the completed application the applicant must submit the following materials: two letters of recommendation, preferrably from teachers and/or employers; a personal statement of one to two pages in length; school transcripts; and current enrollment verification from her institution. Applications and supporting materials must be received during the appropriate application period: February 1 to May 1 and August 1 to November 1.
