In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Tennessee.
  3. Must be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, at a public or an eligible non-public postsecondary educational institution in Tennessee.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  5. Must enroll on a half-time basis or greater.
  6. Must be a high school senior or older at time of application.

Students must enroll on a half-time basis or greater and must demonstrate financial need of having and EFC of $2,100 or less.

Additional Information: The Tennessee Student Assistance Award Program was established by the Tennessee General Assembly in 1976. The purpose of the program is to provide non-repayable financial assistance to financially needy undergraduate students who are residents of Tennessee and are enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, at a public or an eligible non-public postsecondary educational institution in Tennessee. A student's eligibility is determined in the same manner as is eligibility for a Federal Pell Grant. The applicant must have applied for a Federal Pell Grant under Title IV-A-1 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, and have been assigned an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) by the U.S. Department of Education or its contractor, and have that EFC on file at the postsecondary institution to be attended. Students must have a valid Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $2,100 or less to be eligible for this award.

Additional information about this award is available from the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) College Pays website. To apply, interested students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. In addition to a complete application, each participating college or university may require students to submit additional forms or supplemental information before scholarship eligibility can be determined. Students should contact his/her institution for additional details. The FAFSA must be received by the Federal Processor for state scholarship/grant consideration after January 1st each year for award consideration for the upcoming award year. Students are strongly encouraged to submit a FAFSA as soon as possible and no later than February 1 for priority consideration. Awards are made until funds are depleted.
