Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must meet admissions requirements and be accepted to the University of North Florida.
  4. Must enroll as an undergraduate junior or senior in the UNF College of Education and Human Services for the upcoming fall and spring terms.
  5. Must reside in Florida for tuition purposes.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  7. Must major in an area leading to Florida teacher certification, with preference given to students wishing to teach in an urban school.
  8. Must enroll full time (12 credit hours) each semester and earn a minimum of 24 credits by the end of each academic year.

Description: This scholarship is open to Florida students who will be enrolled as college juniors or seniors in the University of North Florida College of Education and Human Services majoring in an area leading to Florida teacher certification. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: Students must demonstrate financial need as defined by the UNF Office of Financial Aid. Recipients are chosen by a selection committee. Students will be notified of their selection status in April or May. Recipients will be recognized at an awards reception in the fall. Students must attend the awards reception as a condition of receiving the scholarship or fellowship. Recipients must meet the following responsibilities: maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the junior and senior years; file the FAFSA each year; consent to release grades to the Division of Institutional Advancement for the purpose of reporting to the donor; comply with all University regulations, rules, and codes of conduct governing students on campus; and remain in good standing as a student.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, disbursed in equal installments for the fall and spring terms.Current recipients may reapply for scholarship support, pending availability of funding, if all of the eligibility requirements have been met. However, current recipients will not be given preference.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available online from the University of North Florida (UNF) College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) website. The student need only submit one application for all UNF COEHS scholarships for which he/she wishes to be considered. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a typed, double-spaced essay of no more than three pages (in 11-point font) describing how he/she will benefit from the scholarship and explaining why he/she wants to pursue a teaching career in an urban school; two professional letters of recommendation that are signed, printed on official letterhead, and dated within 12 months of the application; and a resume or curriculum vitae of four pages or less that includes educational qualifications, work experience, teaching experience, leadership positions held and professional activities. The student must also submit official transcripts if he/she is not currently enrolled at UNF. Please note: Students must have completed the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered for this award. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The application and all required documentation must be submitted together as attachments in one email. Applications must be submitted by email by 5:00 p.m. ET on the deadline date. Only electronic applications will be considered.
