Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a female.
  4. Must be 35 years of age or older at time of application.
  5. Must reside in an attend school in Los Angeles, Riverside, Orange, or Ventura counties.
  6. Must be re-entering or continuing school in order to learn a marketable skill which will lead to economic self-sufficiency.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. women who are 35 years of age or older and are re-entering or continuing school in order to learn a marketable skill which will lead to economic self-sufficiency. Students must reside and attend school in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, or Ventura counties in California.

Application requirements for the Sophie Greenstadt Scholarship for Mid-Life Women are:

  • Enrollment verif.
Additional Information: Applicants for this award may be married or single, with or without children. The highly competitive selection criteria include the ability to articulate a clear statement of goals, the likelihood of goal attainment, the personal courage and personal commitment of the applicant, and the financial need.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the National Council of Jewish Women - Los Angeles Chapter website. Each applicant may apply for up to two awards in each application cycle using one application. In addition to the completed application the applicant must submit the following materials: two letters of recommendation, preferrably from teachers and/or employers; a personal statement of one to two pages in length; school transcripts; and current enrollment verification from her institution. Applications and supporting materials must be received during the appropriate application period: February 1 to May 1 or August 1 to November 1.
