Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be single.
  4. Must be a female.
  5. Must be establishing herself as the head of household.
  6. Must have one or more dependents.
  7. Must have no other adequate financial means and require funds to meet immediate needs for herself and her children, including rent & food.
  8. Must reside in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, or Ventura counties in California.

Description: This award is open to women who are establishing themselves as a head of household and a single parent, and due to extreme circumstances following the dissolution of an abusive or emotionally traumatic relationship, have no other adequate financial means, and require funds to meet immediate needs for themselves and their children, including rent & food. Students must reside in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, and Ventura counties in California.

Additional Information: This award is given to a woman who is establishing herself as a head of household and a single parent, and due to extreme circumstances following the dissolution of an abusive or emotionally traumatic relationship, has no other adequate financial means, and requires funds to meet immediate needs for herself and her children, including rent & food. The highly competitive selection criteria include the ability to articulate a clear statement of goals, the likelihood of goal attainment, the personal courage and personal commitment of the applicant, and the financial need.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the National Council of Jewish Women - Los Angeles Chapter website. Each applicant may apply for up to two awards in each application cycle using one application. In addition to the completed application the applicant must submit the following materials: two letters of recommendation, preferably from teachers and/or employers; a personal statement of one to two pages in length; school transcripts; and current enrollment verification from her institution. Applications and supporting materials must be received during the appropriate application period.
