Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately fifty awards are offered each year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a resident of Oregon or Siskiyou County, California.
  2. Must be a single parent with custody of dependent children, filing as “head of household” with the IRS.
  3. Must be a student seeking an associate or bachelor’s degree and have at least one year remaining in your degree program.
  4. Must also be a student who plans to enroll full time in their state of residence (Oregon or Calif.)

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Outstanding character, work ethic, initiative, volunteer experience, GPA, test scores, financial need and the ability to communicate are also important considering factors.

Application requirements for the Ford Opportunity Program are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • FAFSA after 10/01/2019.
Additional Information: Hallie E. Ford (1905-2007), a founder of The Ford Family Foundation, established the Ford Opportunity Program. The goal is to assist single parents in obtaining a degree. Hallie realized that students who are parents have many extra responsibilities. Each year, the foundation selects up to 50 students for the program. Ideal candidates show strong commitment to roles in school, home and community. They also demonstrate outstanding character, work ethic, initiative, volunteer experience. GPA, test scores and an ability to communicate are also important, as is strong financial need.

Award Amount: The grant value is up to $40,000. Award covers 90% of unmet college costs and is calculated on the college’s Cost of Attendance (tuition, fees, room and board, personal costs, etc.), minus other grants and scholarships. and is renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $40,000.
