Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must demonstrate a record of academic excellence.
  3. Must be a female.
  4. Must pursue a career in computer science, computer engineering or a related field.
  5. Must be a full-time student at a college or university in the United States or Canada.
  6. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student at time of application.

Description: Google offers the Women Techmakers Scholars Program. It honors gender equality in the field of computer science. Female undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate a record of academic excellence, and are pursuing careers in computer science, computer engineering or a related field are eligible.

Application requirements for the Women Techmakers Scholars Program are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Essay
  • Resume
  • Interview (finalists only)
Additional Information: Selection will be based on the strength of the applicant's academic background, responses to short essay questions, and letters of recommendation. As the final step in the scholarship selection process, all finalists will have phone interviews with representatives from the selection committee. Finalists will be notified in March and recipients will be announced in April. All finalists will be invited to visit Google headquarters in Mountain View, California, in April for a networking retreat in which they can meet and share their experiences. The retreat will include workshops with a series of speakers, panelists, breakout sessions and social activities.

Award Amount: $10,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

To apply, the applicant must complete the online application form (located on the Google website) and submit the following documents (preferably in PDF form): a copy of her current academic transcripts (a graduate student must also submit a copy of her undergraduate transcripts); two letters of recommendation from individuals who are qualified to evaluate the applicant's academic and leadership accomplishments; an updated resume; and responses to the five short essay questions listed on the Google website (the suggested count for all questions is 300 words or less). All application materials must be submitted online by the deadline.
