Male vs Female Scholarships
Unless a scholarship has criteria that say otherwise, both men and women might apply. But some providers want to award aid for women and girls only. Female scholarships thus restrict applicants to persons who identify with the female gender.

One recent study shows women account for smaller shares of the STEM workforce. Luckily this means there are many STEM scholarships that women can apply to.
The Brookhaven Women in Science (BWIS) offers the Renate W. Chasman Scholarship. It consists of a one time $2,500 award. Applicants must be female graduate students at an accredited institution. They must also be performing STEM research at Brookhaven National Laboratory.
Since STEM comprises a few fields, there are lots of other options. If you prefer statistics, try applying for the Gertrude M. Cox Scholarship. They offer a $1,000 award to women studying statistics. It was established in 1989 to encourage more women to enter statistically oriented professions. Eligible applicants must submit an essay, transcript and application form.
You might also find scholarships through engineering associations. The Society for Women Engineers (SWE) offers many engineering scholarships to women in STEM. They often pair with a certain university with ABET accredited programs. There’s also the Houzz Women in Architecture Scholarship. This one supports next generation female architects and architectural engineers.
College Scholarships for Women
College bound women have a range of scholarships to choose from. It is a good idea to consider your career and study goals. This is because many providers want to pave the way for women to succeed in their industry.
Women in Public Finance Scholarship awards $3,000 to 10 eligible female students. Applicants need to have an interest in pursuing a public finance related career in finance, government, nonprofits or law.
Scholarships for Female Grad Students

Scholarships for Female High School Students

One example is the 1,000 Dreams Scholarship Fund Recipients get money to pay for extracurricular activities, lessons, and conferences. Another is the P.E.O. Star Scholarship. It goes to girls in their senior year of high school. You need an unweighted 3.0 GPA and leadership skills to apply.
What Makes Scholarships for Women Unique?
Scholarships may help female students succeed in school and in their careers. One study found that women are 50% less likely to get help from their parents to finance their studies than men. This award is available for U.S. students in the New York area who are members of an underserved or underrepresented population and enrolled in or planning to enroll in an associate’s degree program with the intention of transferring to a bachelor’s program immediately upon completion of associate’s degree. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher, enroll full time, and receive federal or state financial aid.
Two promising female undergraduate or graduate student applicants are wanted to provide future journalistic content for AWM. The “Emerging Voices” Scholarship program consists of two scholarships. The winner will receive $3,000 and the runner-up will receive $1,000, made payable directly to each student’s educational institute.
This award will be given to Rhode Island women to assist with transportation, child-care, tutoring, educational materials, and/or other support services. Preference will be given to highly motivated, self-supporting, low-income women who are completing their first undergraduate degree or certificate program.
This award is available for Delaware female undergraduate students who have had a break in education of two or more years either after completing high school or during postsecondary studies. Students must be 20 years of age or older, have a grade point average of ‘C’ or higher (if currently enrolled in college), and be admitted to or currently enrolled in an accredited Delaware college in a two- or four-year degree program at the undergraduate level.
U.S. women who are 17 years of age or older and have been out of the workforce for a period of time, need to upgrade their skills or education in order to succeed, or need to change careers in order to improve their earning ability are eligible for this award. Students must enroll in an undergraduate program and be residents of Onslow County, North Carolina, for six or more months at time of application.
This scholarship is for U.S. and international female students pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a business-related field. Students must be enrolled in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through the final year of a master’s program at the time the application is submitted.
Female U.S. graduate students who are pursuing a master’s degree in civil engineering and have an interest in leadership in transportation are eligible for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
This scholarship is available for female students majoring in public relations and related fields. Applicants must demonstrate achievement and leadership in women’s issues and women’s studies.
This scholarship is provided annually to women in Amery, Wisconsin who are returning to higher education after a period of absence from studies. The scholarship will be awarded based on need.
