Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 10 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of San Mateo County, California.
  3. Must enroll full time at an accredited college or university.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  5. Must be a female.
  6. Must be 16 to 26 years of age.
  7. Must be a current high school senior, a previous high school graduate, or have a GED to apply for this undergraduate and graduate year award.
  8. Must have a grade point average no higher than 3.3.

Description: This award is available U.S. undergraduate and/or graduate young women who are 16 to 26 years of age. Students must be a resident of San Mateo County, California.

Additional Information: This fund was established by Eleanor Williams Curry, an active civic leader on the peninsula. The award is for young women who are self-motivated and need financial support to re-enter the educational system through a community college, university, or vocational school. The award helps women who have dropped out of school for reasons beyond their control, or have undergone unusual hardships to remain in school. The selection committee considers additional circumstances related to possible ethnic or racial discrimination, physical disability, or the choice of a non-traditional area of study.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Recipients must reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications are available on the Silicon Valley Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation (the letters must be from the people listed on the application); an official transcript of grades; a personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; evidence of financial need as described on the application; and proof of U.S. citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport or naturalization papers). The complete application packet must be completed online by the deadline date.
