Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually. If there is sufficient funding, the GFWC of MA may offer more than one award.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have been a resident of Massachusetts for five years or more.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be a woman.
  5. Must be eligible to apply for graduate study in the United States.

Description: Graduate students in the United States who have been residents of Massachusetts for five or more years are eligible for this award. Students must be majoring in education.

Application requirements for the GFWCM Memorial Education Scholarship for Gradate Studies are:

  • Interview
  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
Additional Information: The award winner must notify the GFWC of MA treasurer by mail of the college he/she will attend, college identification number, and address of the office handling student accounts. Each award winner must matriculate at the college of his/her choice no later than Feb. 1 in the year following the application deadline. The scholarship winner and one guest will be invited to attend a scholarship luncheon at the GFWC of MA State Convention in May. Further details will be sent to the scholarship recipient upon notification of the award.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable. The award is for tuition only and will be sent to the recipient's college.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available on the General Federation of Women's Clubs of Massachusetts (GFWC of MA) website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following: a personal statement of no more than 500 words addressing professional goals and financial need; a letter of reference from the college department chair or recent employer (original on letterhead); and an official transcript of college grades (both undergraduate and graduate, if applicable). Failure to comply with these requirements will result in disqualification. All required materials must be sent together (in one package) to the chairman of trustees at the address provided, and must be postmarked by the deadline date. Deadlines are strictly adhered to, no exceptions.
