Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a college sophomore or junior at the time of application.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be a woman.
  6. Must be a resident of Kent County, Michigan.
  7. Must be enrolled at the University of Michigan.

Description: The Lavina Laible Scholarship is available for female undergraduate students residing in Kent County, Michigan. Applicants must be entering her junior or senior year at the University of Michigan at the time of application.

Additional Information: The Grand Rapids Community Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships annually, primarily to Kent County students bound for or in college, or those pursuing a technical career. This scholarship, named in honor of Lavina Laible, is provided each year to a female student from Kent County who is entering her junior or senior year at the University of Michigan. Selection is based on academic performance and financial need.

Award Amount: Awards range from $500 to $5,000 depending on the student's unmet need and the availability of funds.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications and information are available at the Grand Rapids Community Foundation website at the address provided. In addition to the online application form, an interested student must submit transcripts (official or unofficial), an essay describing his/her personal and professional aspirations, and documentation such as the FAFSA Student Aid report that proves financial need. All applications must be submitted online by the deadline date.
