Number of Awards & Eligibility: A minimum of 11 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be female.
  4. Must be a high school senior with the intention to graduate at the end of the school year, and meet entrance requirements and plan to enroll at an accredited college or university in the United States.
  5. Must have a cumulative unweighted grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  6. Must demonstrate active involvement with the sport of golf. Skill in playing golf is not a criterion. Examples include playing golf as a hobby or as part of a team, working at a golf course, as a caddy or in a pro shop, and any other direct, active engagement with the sport.
  7. Must plan to enroll in college on a full-time basis (12 or more credit hours per semester).

Description: This scholarship is open to female U.S. high school seniors who demonstrate active involvement with the sport of golf; skill in playing golf is not a criterion. Students must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher and demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: All applicants must demonstrate financial need and excellent character. Recipients will be notified on or before Aug. 15, 2019.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, renewable for up to three additional years for a total of $8,000. Scholarships are to be used toward tuition, books, board, and other college expenses. To be eligible for renewal, the applicant must: complete a renewal application; continue standing as a full-time student; maintain a grade point average of 2.1 or higher for her first year and 3.0 or higher for all other years; continue to demonstrate financial need; not incur disciplinary action from the college or university for infractions suggesting a lack of character.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $8,000.

Applications are available online on the Henry & Sara Sheehan Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following materials: an official high school transcript (must include fall semester grades from senior year); a personal essay of two pages or less addressing the topic listed on the application; one letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, counselor, or administrator such as a principal (a local business or professional recommender also acceptable); and a copy of her SAR (Student Aid Report), to include the EFC (Expected Family Contribution). The SAR is generated by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The application and all supporting documents must be mailed in the same envelope to the address provided and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
