Women's Transportation Seminar

Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a female.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program.
  4. Must plan to pursue a career in a transportation-related field.
  5. Must be affiliated with one of the following WTS chapters: Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Canada, Central Florida, Central Illinois, Central Pennsylvania, Chicago, Colorado, Columbus, Connecticut Valley, Dallas/Fort Worth, Greater New York, Heart of Texas, Houston, Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Metro Phoenix, Michigan, Middle Tennessee, Minnesota, North Carolina, Orange County, Philadelphia, Portland, Puerto Rico, Puget Sound/Seattle, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, South Florida, St. Louis, Tampa Bay, Tucson, Washington D.C., or Wisconsin.
  6. This award is for international and U.S. students.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Women who are currently enrolled as college sophomores, juniors and/or seniors in a transportation-related program with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and are affiliated with an eligible Women's Transportation Seminar chapter are eligible to apply for this award.

Additional Information: This scholarship honors Sharon D. Banks, chief executive officer of AC Transit in Alameda-Contra Costa County, California. As CEO during most of the 1990s, Sharon led the agency in a pioneering effort to introduce cultural and organizational changes aimed at motivating the public transit work force. She was a member of the WTS Advisory Board and received the WTS San Francisco Chapter Woman and Employer of the Year awards. The scholarships are competitive and based on the applicant's specific transportation goals, academic record and transportation-related activities or job skills. Minority candidates are encouraged to apply.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.
