Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a resident of San Diego, California.
  4. Must be a student pilot planning to pursue a private pilot certificate and have passed the written test and completed a solo flight.
  5. Must be a female.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: San Diego female students who wish to obtain a private pilot certificate are eligible for this award. Students must have a passing score on the written test and have completed a solo flight.

Application requirements for the Student Pilot Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Medical cert.
Additional Information: The scholarship winner will be notified by the scholarship chairperson and all funds will be paid directly to a certified flight school, flying club, or CFI. The winner may be asked to submit a photo and flying biography for publicity purposes. Each applicant is not eligible to win more than one scholarship per certificate or rating per fiscal year and no more than two scholarships per fiscal year from the San Diego 99s. The fiscal year runs from June 1 to May 31.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. The scholarship winner will have 90 days to use the scholarship funds toward a private pilot certificate.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the San Diego Chapter of the Ninety-Nines website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a one-page essay detailing the requested information on page three of the application; a copy of her medical certificate; and up to three letters of recommendation. A student pilot must provide copies of written test result, solo endorsement, and log book page showing solo entry. The applicant must also provide the email and/or phone contact information for each person issuing a letter of recommendation. The application and supporting materials may be submitted via PDF to the email address listed or to the mailing address provided.
