Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a high school, undergraduate or graduate college student.
  4. Must have an interest in writing. The student must submit an unpublished work of fiction.
  5. Must be a female.
  6. Must be of African descent.

Additional Information: The Go On Girl! Book Club is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit organization that supports authors of the Black African Diaspora by choosing one book per month for all club members to read. The Club reading list is formed twice a year. Members read a book each month, meet to discuss it, and then write the author of the book to express their opinions about the work. The organization as a whole recognizes the artistic achievements of these authors at annual award ceremonies. Since our founding in 1991, more than 30 chapters have been organized across the country.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. The winner will be invited, along with a guest, to attend the annual awards ceremony. Her work may be featured in the Go On Girl! quarterly newsletter and/or on the website.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Additional information are available online from the Go On Girl! Book Club website. The applicant must submit an original, unpublished work of fiction (a short story or novel excerpt) that is no longer than 2,000 typed words on double-spaced pages. The applicant must also include a cover sheet with the following information: his/her name; address; telephone number; email address; and a 250-word biographical sketch, including his/her writing goals and current status. Application materials must be submitted online by the deadline.
