Many colleges and universities offer options for studying abroad and taking advantage of such an opportunity may be one of the greatest adventures and opportunities you can find in higher education. Being able to learn and study in a foreign country reveals a wealth of new experiences and perspectives that just aren't available in more traditional classroom settings. Although not all scholarships and aid programs are eligible to fund study abroad programs, all the awards on this list can be used to help pay for travel, accommodation, and/or tuition costs related to foreign study, employment, and other academic, volunteer, and career advancement opportunities.

National Student Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship is available to a student who is entering North Carolina State University as a full-time freshman. The student must demonstrate leadership experience, strong personal character, and integrity.

Dell Scholars Program

This award is for U.S. high school seniors who have a grade point average of 2.4 or higher and demonstrated financial need (e.g., Pell Grant eligible). Students must have participated in an eligible college readiness program during their junior and senior years of high school.

Bellarmine University Scholars Scholarship

U.S. incoming college freshmen with a grade point average of 3.4 or higher and ACT scores of 29 or higher are eligible for this award. Students must attend Bellarmine University.

McConnell Scholarship for Future Leaders

This award is available for U.S. graduating high school seniors who are residents of Kentucky and plan to attend the University of Louisville. Students must have a grade point average of 3.8 or higher, have an SAT score of 1390 or higher or an ACT score of 30 or higher, and major or minor in political science.

Golden Key Joan Nelson Study Abroad Scholarship

This scholarship is available for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who are members of Golden Key International Honour Society. Students must be preparing for an upcoming study abroad program.

Travel Safe Abroad Scholarship Program

The Travel Safe Abroad Scholarship Program is available for full time undergraduate and graduate students who submit an essay about staying safe while studying abroad.

USF National Merit Scholarship

High school seniors designated as National Merit Finalists will receive this award upon selecting the University of South Florida as their top-choice school.

Boren Fellowship Awards For International Study

This award is available to U.S students who are either matriculated in or applying to a graduate degree program at a U.S. college or university and planning to pursue a study abroad program. Scholarships are awarded with preference for countries, languages, and fields of study critical to U.S. national security.

University of Louisiana at Lafayette Jefferson Caffery Scholarship

This award is for U.S. students who have applied for admission to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as entering freshmen and are residents of Louisiana. The student must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, an ACT composite score of 30 or higher or an SAT composite score of 1390 or higher, and be a National Merit Finalist or Semi-Finalist.

Aubrey Lee Brooks Scholarship

This award is available to North Carolina high school seniors who are planning to enroll full time at North Carolina State University, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill or the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Awards are based on financial need, merit, leadership, and character.
