Shelton Leadership Initiative
$10,000 annually, renewable for three additional years by maintaining a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and participating in the leadership programs offered by the program. The student may also receive up to $2,000 per year for enrichment experiences, such as study abroad, internships, seminars, individually designed creative projects, etc.
One award offered annually.
The following eligibility and selection criteria will be used in the decision making process: leadership experience and potential; evidence of personal character and integrity; orientation toward community and service; an understanding of and interest in maximizing the program's opportunities; and academic eligibility. The scholarship selection committee will notify semi-finalists of the need to apply to the North Carolina State University (NCSU) admissions office and to complete the 'University Merit Scholarship' application by the deadline; however, the student may wish to apply earlier to NCSU. Students who are selected as finalists will be notified and required to provide a letter of recommendation from a person familiar with his/her leadership potential (in a signed/sealed envelope or mailed directly to the program office). Additional finalists may be selected from the entire pool of students whose merit applications are complete by Jan. 1. The committee will notify finalists by Feb. 1, and the selected finalists will need to participate in an interview in mid-February.
