Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on the number of qualified students.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must plan to attend the University of Arizona.
  4. Must be a high school senior planning to attend college for the first time in the fall.
  5. Must be a National Merit Finalist.
  6. Must plan to complete 30 UA units per academic year.
  7. Must NOT be a resident of the state of Arizona.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. students who are non-Arizona residents and National Merit Finalists are eligible for this award. Students must declare the University of Arizona as their first choice.

  • $65 fee
  • SAT/ACT scores
Additional Information: This award is offered to the Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship competition sponsored by the National Merit Corporation (NMSC). Finalists must declare the UA as their first school of choice with NMSC per the deadline set by the NMSC.

Award Amount: $23,000 annually, renewable for up to three additional years (eight semesters total) as long as the recipient maintains a grade point average of 3.0 and completes 30 credits each academic year. Each student will also receive a one-time $1,500 award for study abroad.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $96,000.

Applications for admission are available on The University of Arizona (UA) website. There is not a separate application for this award. Students will be considered upon admission to the University of Arizona. In addition to the completed admissions application, each student must submit official transcripts, official SAT/ACT scores, and a $65 application fee. The student must declare the UA as his/her first school of choice with National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) per the deadline set by the NMSC.
