Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 26 awards were given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a domestic student in the U.S.
  2. Must attend Greenfield High School in Greenfield, California or King City High School in King City, California.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be a high school student in grades nine through twelve at time of application.

Description: The Scheid Vineyards Writing Contest is available for graduating seniors at Greenfield and King City High Schools in California.

Application requirements for the Scheid Vineyards Writing Contest are:

  • Essay
  • Application form
Additional Information: Students are given an essay topic several weeks before the contest date. On the contest date, which is always a Saturday, participating students bring their notes and research materials to a classroom and write their essays on-site.

Award Amount: One first-place senior award is given at both schools in the amount of $2,500 annually, non-renewable. The other award amounts vary annually. The total amount designated for this program is approximately $17,900.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Interested students should contact their high school guidance offices for deadline information, the essay topic, and any other additional information about the Scheid Vineyard Writing Contest. Please note: The deadline for Greenfield High School students is usually in February, and the deadline for King City High School students is usually in early March
