Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be providing direct patient care 32+ hours or more a week.
  2. Must be working in a qualified facility.
  3. Must be in good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences and or the Board of Psychology.
  4. Must have outstanding educational debt from a commercial or U.S. governmental lending institution.
  5. Must be free from any other service obligation, including other HPEF programs.
  6. Must be willing to continue working in a medically underserved area for up to twenty four (24) months.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The Licensed Mental Health Services Provider Education Program (LMH) offers loan forgiveness awards to individuals who provide direct care services at a New York State-licensed mental health agency. Up to $15,000 per year for up to 3 years, or the actual amount of the recipient’s student loan debt, whichever is less, is offered.

Application requirements for the Licensed Mental Health Services Provider Education Program (LMH) are:

  • Application form
  • a licensed/registered mental health professional with either the Board of Behavioral Sciences or the Board of Psychology
Additional Information: California’s Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development (OSHPD) tries to improve access to quality healthcare for Californians. They ensure hospital buildings are safe, offer financial assistance to individuals and healthcare institutions, and collect and publish healthcare data. An awardee may receive up to $15,000 to repay educational loans for up to a 24-month commitment practicing and providing direct client care in an eligible site. Applicants can be awarded up to three (3) times. Eligible sites include Publicly Funded or Public Mental Health Facilities, Non-Profit Mental Health Facilities that contract with a county entity to provide mental health services, and/or Health Professional Shortage Area- Mental Health (HPSA-MH) .

Award Amount: An awardee may receive up to $15,000 to repay educational loans for up to a 24-month commitment practicing and providing direct client care in an eligible site. Applicants can be awarded up to three (3) times.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $15,000.
