Number of Awards & Eligibility: Nine awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a legal U.S. resident.
  3. Must reside in the 50 United States or the District of Columbia.
  4. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  5. Must be currently enrolled at a HACU member institution. The student can verify his/her institution's membership status online at the HACU website.
  6. Must be enrolled full time.
  7. Must be of Latino descent.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. legal permanent residents who are 18 years of age or older and currently enrolled full time in a HACU member institution. Students must be of Latino descent.

Additional Information: The essays and supporting documents will be judged by a qualified panel of judges and assigned points based on the criteria listed in the official rules. The highest scoring applicants will be deemed winners. Winners will be announced to the public on or about Sept. 1. Employees, officers and directors of HACU or Rowland Coffee Roasters, Inc., their parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, distributors, sales representatives, website developers and administrators, advertising, sales promotion and judging agencies and all other service agencies involved with the contest, and members of the immediate families (parent, child, sibling and spouse of each) or households of any of the above are not eligible.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $45,000.

Applications are available online on the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities website. The student must upload the following materials to the online application: an essay of 800 words or less describing how the student's Latino heritage, family, and the community he/she grew up in has impacted his/her desire and motivation to obtain a college degree, what he/she intends to accomplish with that degree, and how he/she will give back to his/her community (may be written in English or Spanish); a letter of recommendation from a school advisor, community leader, or mentor; and an enrollment verification and official transcript. Please note: The essay and letter of recommendation must be typed, double-spaced, in 12-point Times New Roman font (or equivalent), and must have numbered pages and one-inch margins. Entries must be received by 11:59:59 a.m. ET on the deadline date.
