Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies. It is anticipated that one to eight scholarships will be given this year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S citizen or permanent resident.
  2. Must have been classified as a Florida resident for tuition purposes for at least one year preceding the award of aid (per Florida Statute 1009.21).
  3. Must be classified as a minority student.
  4. Must enroll full time.
  5. Must attend Florida International University.
  6. Must have been accepted as a degree-seeking student into graduate (master or doctoral) disciplines where minority graduate students are disproportionately underrepresented.
  7. This award is for U.S students.

Description: This award is for Florida graduate minority students who are attending Florida International University. Students must be pursuing graduate degrees in disciplines where minorities are underrepresented.

Application requirements for the FIU Delores Auzenne Fellowship are:

Additional Information: The Delores Auzenne Fellowship is designed to assist Florida International University in increasing the matriculation of minority graduate students who are enrolled in disciplines where there is under-representation. All students must meet the following criteria: have demonstrated initiative in pursuing educational goals and possess the qualifications to assure satisfactory progress toward future educational goals; and have met the eligibility requirements of Section 240.404, Florida Statutes, for award of state financial aid.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually ($2,500 per semester, fall/spring or both). Awards are not automatically renewable. Recipients must reapply annually and are required to: attend orientation in August of the award year; maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher; and be enrolled as a full-time student (taking 9 credit hours).  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online at the Florida International University (FIU) website. In addition to completing the application, the student must include the following materials: a one-page, double-spaced personal statement expressing career objectives; a letter of acceptance; a letter from an academic advisor to include total credits required for degree program, total hours completed, total hours in progress, and cumulative grade point average; an official undergraduate transcript; an official current transcript; two letters of recommendation from professors or current advisors; and a copy of his/her visa if a non-U.S. citizen. The complete application packet must be submitted to FIU using the mailing address provided on or before the deadline date.
