Number of Awards & Eligibility: Four awards offered annually. Three scholarships will be awarded to a graduate student, and four scholarships will be awarded to undergraduate students.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be entering his/her second year at an accredited two-year college in the upcoming fall semester/term and will have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours by the end of the current semester/term; OR be entering his/her third year at an accredited four-year college or university in the upcoming fall semester/term and will have completed a minimum of 60 credit hours by the end of the current semester/term; OR be entering his/her fourth year at an accredited four-year college or university in the upcoming fall semester/term and will have completed a minimum of 90 credit hours by the end of the current semester/term; OR be entering any year of graduate study in the upcoming fall at an accredited four-year college or university.
  3. Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Must be enrolled in a travel and tourism- or hospitality-related program of study. If a graduate student, the applicant must demonstrate a clear focus on and commitment to the tourism subject area.
  5. Must enroll full time at a college or university in the United States.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is open to international and U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who are enrolled in a travel and tourism- or hospitality-related program. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: The Tourism Cares Scholarship awards are based on merit and awarded through a competitive process. The Academic Scholarship Selection Committee makes their selections based on academic performance, extracurricular and volunteer activities and experiences, motivation, and leadership potential. The recipient will be notified in late May, and the award will be distributed in the summer.

Award Amount: $4,000 annually, non-renewable. Past recipients may apply again as long as they continue to meet eligibility criteria and application is made in a different calendar year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available on the Tourism Cares website. The student must create an account to access the online application. Only one application is necessary to apply for all scholarships for which he/she wishes to be considered. The following documents must be uploaded to the online application: a copy of his/her birth certificate or passport (preferred) or alien registration card; a letter of recommendation from a faculty member (travel, tourism, or hospitality faculty preferred); a letter of recommendation from an industry professional for whom he/she has worked (employer from the travel, tourism, or hospitality field preferred); a resume; and a two-page essay written in English addressing the topic listed on the application. All documents must be uploaded as PDF files. The student must request an official transcript be sent directly from his/her institution in a sealed envelope to Tourism Cares at the mailing address provided. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. ET on the deadline date.
