In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be planning to sit for the PHR or GPHR exam within the next 12 months. Students who have already taken the exam sometime in 2010 may also apply for a certification scholarship to cover related expenses already incurred.
  4. Must be pursuing a degree in human resources.
  5. Must be an SHRM student member with an active membership as of the application deadline date and a valid SHRM ID number.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in an HR (human resources) area. Students must be national student members of SHRM, and must take the PHR or GPHR exam within the next 12 months or have already taken the exam and wish to receive the scholarship to cover expenses incurred.

Application requirements for the SHRM Certification Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Resume
  • Verif. of cert. exam
Additional Information: Applicants are evaluated using the following criteria: commitment to the HR profession and future career plans, 40 percent; SHRM student chapter involvement and volunteer activity, 40 percent; and financial need, 20 percent. Employees or national board members of SHRM, HRCI or the SHRM Foundation and members of their immediate family are not eligible to apply for SHRM Foundation grants, awards or scholarships.

Award Amount: $750 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $750.

Applications are available on the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) website. Applications must be submitted via the SHRM online form. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a statement of 250 words or less describing his/her human resources (HR) interest; a current copy of his/her resume summarizing his/her education, volunteer, and work experience; and one letter of reference from an adviser or professor that includes verification that he/she plans to sit for the certification exam in the next 12 months or has already taken the exam. The letter must be submitted electronically through the online application. All application materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
