Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a full-time student enrolled in medical school.
  4. Must attend an accredited institution in Wisconsin.
  5. Must have completed or be in the process of completing one year of medical school.

Description: Wisconsin medical students who demonstrate the values of chivalry, honor and loyalty, and how they will use those qualities in caring for patients are eligible for this award.

Additional Information: The Robert Jason Gore Scholarship was established with a gift from Dr. Donald and Jackie Gore in memory of their grandson, Robert Jason Gore, who was killed in Iraq. Preference is given to a student closer to completing his/her degree. Preference will also be given to candidates from Wisconsin who are attending an educational institution in Wisconsin, and to those who show a strong interest in practicing in Wisconsin, especially in areas of need. Applicants are evaluated on the following criteria: financial need, academic achievement, personal qualities and strengths, and letters of recommendation.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online from the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation (WMSF) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit a one page personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application as well as stressing how he/she has demonstrated empathy, recognition of colleagues, passion for learning and the desire to share his/her knowledge to educate colleagues and patients; a transcript of recent high school or higher education work; and two letters of recommendation, preferably from school officials who can discuss his/her academic and personal achievements as well as his/her potential for future success. If the applicant has applied for financial aid at his/her institution for the current academic year, he/she should enclose a copy of the financial award letter. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
