Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a full-time student.
  4. Must be attending an accredited Wisonsin institution.
  5. Must be entering his/her fourth year of medical school in the upcoming fall semester.

Description: Wisconsin medical students who will be entering their fourth year of medical school in the fall and who exemplify the attributes, skills and desire to become a medical leader in Wisconsin are eligible for this award.

Additional Information: The mission of the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation is to advance the health of the people of Wisconsin by supporting medical and health education. The Foundation’s Presidential Scholar Award recognizes a medical student who exemplifies the attributes, skills and desire to become a medical leader in Wisconsin. Preference will be given to candidates from Wisconsin who are attending an educational institution in Wisconsin and to those who show strong interest in practicing in Wisconsin, especially in areas of need.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online from the Wisconsin Medical Society Foundation (WMSF) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit a one personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application and active involvement with the Wisconsin Medical Society or a county medical society as well as his/her ties to Wisconsin; a transcript of recent high school or higher education work; and two letters of recommendation, one from a Wisconsin Medical Society member who has worked with him/her through the board of directors, a council, a task force, or as a county medical society officer and one from a school official who can discuss his/her academic and personal achievements as well as his/her potential for future success. If the applicant has applied for financial aid at his/her institution for the current academic year, he/she should include a copy of the financial award letter. Applications and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
