Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In the recent academic years, there were six awards given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a legal resident of Delaware.
  3. Must be enrolled full time.
  4. Must plan to pursue a career in optometry.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  6. Must be enrolled in a program leading to licensure as an optometrist in Delaware.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for students enrolled full time in a program preparing them for licensure as an optometrist in Delaware. The loan award will be forgiven at a rate of one year of employment as an optometrist in Delaware for one year of loan.

Application requirements for the Delaware Optometry Incentive Program are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • College Grade Release Form
Additional Information: The loan forgiveness provision is at a rate of one year of employment as an optometrist in Delaware for one year of loan.

Award Amount: $4,000 renewable for three additional years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

Applications are available at the Delaware Higher Education Office (DHEO) website. Most DHEO programs will require the student to submit additional documents including an unofficial transcript, SAT scores, and updated college enrollment information by the scholarship deadline. Students should follow the instructions in the Common Merit Application carefully. The Common Merit Application must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on the deadline date.
