Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance (AFWA) Seattle Chapter

Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In previous years, five scholarships have been provided.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have completed 30 or more semester hours (or 45 or more quarter hours) within four weeks of the application deadline.
  3. Must be pursuing an associate's of applied science, bachelor's, or master's degree in accounting or an equivalent designated postbaccalaureate certificate of accounting at an accredited community college, college, university, or professional school of accounting.
  4. Must be a part-time or full-time student.
  5. Must have an overall grade point average of 2.05 or higher AND a 3.0 or higher in accounting.

Description: This scholarship is open to female undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring in accounting at a Washington institution. Students must have an overall grade point average of 2.05 or higher and 3.0 or higher in accounting.

Additional Information: When reviewing applications, the Scholarship Committee considers the following when making their selections: career goals; communication skills; financial need and circumstances; personal circumstances; and grade point average. Winners will be notified by June 30, with funds to be paid to the school by mid-August. All information received by AFWA is held in the strictest of confidence. Scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, national origin, sex, religion, age, handicaps, or marital status.

Award Amount: Awards range from $2,000 to $4,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available on the Accounting & Finance Women's Alliance (AFWA) Seattle Chapter website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following supporting documents: an essay of two pages or less, double-spaced, describing her career goals and objectives; an original current official college transcript (in sealed envelope); financial aid transcripts from the college, if applicable; two original, signed, letters of recommendation; and proof of acceptance to an eligible program if transferring to another college or beginning a post-baccalaureate education at a new university. Completed application packets must be mailed to the address provided and must be received by the deadline date.
